GHS to give jabs on arrival for Ghanaians, resident foreigners partially or unvaccinated arriving in Ghana

Ghanaians and resident foreigners who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated are exempted from the requirement for full vaccinations before travelling to Ghana, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.

Such persons would be offered “vaccination on arrival, failing which the passenger will undergo mandatory quarantine for seven days (at the cost to the passenger).”

Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of the GHS, made this known at a press briefing in Accra last week Thursday.

He noted that all other cases would be considered on a case-by-case basis while home management teams would be strengthened to ensure strict compliance with the home management protocols by eligible persons.

Regarding updates on de-isolation and discharge guidelines, the GHS Director-General said all hospitalised patients without symptoms would de-isolate 10 days after testing positive.

For all patients on home isolation, he said de-isolation would be seven days after testing positive.

In cases of high or moderate risk exposure to someone infected with COVID-19, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye stressed that affected persons would stay home or self-quarantine until day five after last exposure.

He said persons would test for COVID-19 if symptoms developed while persons could resume normal activities on the fifth day if they tested negative.

“Where the test is positive, the person will stay isolated until day seven after last exposure,” he added.
