The Responsible Small-scale Miners Association will protest on Friday, October 11, against Organised Labour’s call for a ban on small-scale mining as part of the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
The group argues that while illegal mining is harmful, the proposed ban unfairly threatens their legal livelihoods.
General Secretary Mark Conduah said the strike is politically motivated and that the association deserves to operate responsibly, just as other Ghanaians have the right to earn their livelihoods.
The protest will take place in Accra.
