Parts of the Aboi Nkwanta-Samrebol Road in Wassa Amenfi West, Western Region, have been severely damaged, blocking vehicle access due to illegal mining activities and recent rainstorms.
Illegal mining near the road has worsened conditions, with uncovered pits creating hazards, especially in the rainy season.
Currently, only motorcycles can use wooden planks to cross the road.
Nana Gyan Manso, the local Assembly Member, reported that houses have flooded, and residents are displaced, and he plans to involve officials for urgent repairs.
Local drivers have called on authorities to address illegal mining, which continues to damage roads and water bodies.
