Prof. Kwesi Aning has labeled illegal mining, or "galamsey," in Ghana as a serious transnational crime involving foreign actors.
Speaking on Joy FM, he highlighted the extensive environmental damage and risks to water resources caused by these operations.
Prof. Aning criticized Ghanaian leaders for not tackling the issue effectively and noted that foreign nationals, especially from China, are heavily involved, worsening the situation.
He warned that galamsey poses a significant threat to Ghana’s environmental and international standing.
