Galaxy International school celebrates 15th Science and Makers’ fair; makes call for study of science

Ghana’s prestigious school, Galaxy International School has celebrated its 15th annual Science and Makers’ fair with the aim of encouraging the study of science and scientific innovation among students in Ghana.

The event which was celebrated under the theme: “imagine, invent and inspire,” brought together students from public schools and parents of different schools, diplomats and educationists to see the scientific innovations of the students of the school.

There were over one hundred exhibitions centers displaying various projects presented by the students during the year. Projects from students of other schools were also displayed.

Among the projects showcased by the students were the building of robots using water bottles, the application of the Pythagoras theorem, making a model car with jet fighters and the technology of using small space to grow vegetables. Other projects included a 3D printer, hologram and robotic arm.

The principal of the School, Mr Cafer Tepeli, in his speech indicated that the science and makers’ fair is a special way of encouraging the study of science and bridging the gaps between the school and other schools, that’s why students of other schools were not only to observe the scientific display of their Galaxy counterparts but also presented their own projects for display.

According to him, the science and Makers’ fair is targeted at creating a country where the people become aware of science and the application of technology to enable their country develop more speedily.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the education minister , The GES counsel Chairman, Mr Micheal Nsowah, praised the school for the beneficial role they play in the educational environment of the schools in the country.He indicated that the study of science is at the heart of the new GES curriculum and since Galaxy School has taken a step on this direction already they demand a strong commendation.

Mr Nsowah was happy that Galaxy international school have over the period made teaching more practical than theory.



On her part, a representative of the Adenta Municipal directorate of education, Mrs Kate Adjie expressed her happiness of the presence of Galaxy International School in their municipality, according to her the school is a model of excellence in Ghana. Mrs Kate Adjei was amazed at the level of scientific innovations and creations of the students of the school and expressed hope in the future of Ghana. She reiterated the need to lay special emphasis on vocational and technical education.

Parents and students who attended the fair could not hide their joy over the scientific innovations displayed at the fair .
