Ghana's cocoa farmers file complaint over prices and child labour

Cocoa farmers in Ghana have submitted a complaint to Cocobod, the state regulator, demanding fair income, stronger environmental protections, and social safeguards.

Signed by 30 farmers, the complaint calls for a “living income” to help eliminate child labor, alongside commitments to halt deforestation and control pesticide use.

The complaint will test a grievance mechanism set up by Cocobod as part of a $600 million loan agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Amid rising global cocoa prices, farmers urge Cocobod to ensure higher wages and increased transparency in company supply chains to enhance sustainability in the cocoa sector.
