Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned the government’s rationale behind the electronic levy (E-levy), especially given the revenue gains during the COVID-19 period.
Speaking on TV3’s NewDay, Amaliba argued that the government received substantial funds during the pandemic, which raised Ghana’s revenue beyond targets, making the E-levy unnecessary.
His comments align with a recent Afrobarometer report showing nearly 80% of Ghanaians want the E-levy scrapped.
Amaliba urged voters to consider economic mismanagement and recent credit downgrades when deciding in the upcoming elections.
