The Minority in Parliament has accused the Akufo-Addo-led government of recruiting members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) as part of a rigging agenda in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Deputy Minority Whip Ahmed Ibrahim, who made the allegation, said the NPP recruits have started their operations, especially in areas considered to be strongholds of the main National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the Member of Parliament for Banda, the officials have been planted in the constituencies of NDC parliamentarians to spy on them and also devise ways of reducing the influence of opposition MPs in those constituencies.
Mr Banda told Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM, Thursday, 30 May 2019 that he is one of the NDC MPs targeted by the BNI operatives.
“They have placed some of them in my constituency when you go to Asawase where Muntaka is the MP, there are some there,” he said.
“What the government is doing is not a transfer of BNI operatives, they are recruiting NPP people into the BNI to rig the elections in 2020.
“Those people are all over the place and some of them are even creating trouble for their own party leaders including the Vice-President, Dr Bawumia.”
