‘Grab the bull by the horns in galamsey fight’ – Kwesi Aning tells Akufo-Addo

Security expert Prof. Kwesi Aning has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to take stronger action against illegal mining, or galamsey, which is damaging Ghana's environment.

He stressed that current efforts are not enough and urged bold steps to stop the destruction of water bodies and forests.

Prof. Aning warned that while those involved in galamsey profit, the broader economy suffers, and he emphasized the need for collective action to save Ghana’s natural resources.

His comments follow the military's latest crackdown on galamsey, which destroyed illegal mining equipment under the "Operation Halt" initiative.
