Haruna Iddrisu wants Majority MPs to vacate seats while contesting re-election as independent candidates

Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the Minority plans to invoke Article 94(G) of the constitution, which requires Members of Parliament (MPs) to vacate their seats if they leave their party or run as independent candidates.

This follows the decision of four MPs from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to seek re-election as independents.

If successful, this could reduce the NPP’s majority in Parliament until by-elections are held.

Notable MPs affected include Cynthia Morrison, MP for Agona West.
