The 2012 presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention, Hassan Ayariga, has described as “unfair”, the two-year suspension of stalwart Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby from the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Ayariga has told XYZ News the punishment pronounced on Dr. Wereko-Brobby amounts to “double standards”.

Dr. Wereko Brobby is being punished for criticising the party’s election petition which is currently being heard by the Supreme Court.

He also incurred the wrath of the party when he described its 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a “clueless” and confused witness in the case.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the actions of the NPP against Dr. Wereko-Brobby could only be morally justified if the party had not tolerated PNC Youth Organiser Abu Ramadan to disobey his own party’s regulations.

He wondered why the NPP would expel Dr. Wereko-Brobby for expressing his views, and on the other hand, encouraged Abu Ramadan to show absolute disrespect to the PNC and its leadership.

“The party has to listen to its supporters and listen to its members,” Mr. Ayariga counseled, adding that a party like the NPP should have encourage “freedom of speech”.
