Mr John Dramani Mahama, former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital towards the fight against the novel corona virus disease.
The donation, which includes 30 pieces of wellington boots, a carton of hand gloves, and 28 overall coats was to augment the Hospital’s effort in the fight against the disease.
Professor Margaret Kweku, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Hohoe Constituency and Head of the National Democratic Congress’ COVID-19 Technical Team who made the presentation on behalf of Mr. Mahama said the former President had been very active and instrumental in the quest to help the nation fight the war.
She said the Technical Team reinforced the recommendation by the Party’s Flagbearer that there was an urgent need to build medical research centers to support proactive efforts and preparedness when faced with issues like COVID-19.
Professor Kweku said despite efforts being made in the health sector, individuals and health workers needed to adhere to preventive measures such as proper handwashing using water from Veronica buckets and Tippy-Taps in the absence of running pipe-borne water.
“We must all continue to use nose masks, observe physical distancing, and more importantly staying at home. This is necessary because if we are careless, the cases will continue to increase”.
Dr. Pius Mensah, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital who received the donation on behalf of the facility expressed gratitude to the former President and the Technical Team for the support.
He said the donation comprised core medical logistics in managing COVID-19 cases in the case management center of the Hospital, adding that they would be put to good use in the fight against the disease.
