Immediate former Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has categorically stated that, though he has no intention to contest for the position of the party’s General Secretary, he is capable of heading that position.
According him, questions have been raised among some NPP bigwigs and political analysts why he resigned as NPP’s Communication Director, adding that they believed he is gunning for Sir John’s position as NPP’s General Secretary.
But speaking on Adom FM, Nana Akomea rubbished the allegation and stated that, though he qualifies to contest for the party’s General Secretary post, that wasn’t why he resigned.
“I have heard many saying I want to be the general secretary and at the same time I want to contest as a presidential candidate for the NPP. I have not made up my mind for those positions, but I can work as the party’s chief scribe. For now I am still a member of the communication team and a foot soldier,” he said.
Nana Akomea resigned his position as the Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party 2012 campaign last week.
In a message posted on his Facebook wall, Nana Akomea thanked his colleagues for their co-operation during the period he occupied the position.
“I stood down as NPP director of 2012 campaign communications last Friday 13 Sept.” he posted on his Facebook wall. He added: “I will now happily respond to ‘former director’. I am grateful to all my colleagues' deputy directors and members of the communications team for the very good relationship we have enjoyed”
The former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South was appointed Director of Communications for the NPP and its 2012 Campaign in January 2011 by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
