Contrary to media reports he was prevented by security details and relations of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from seeing him at a health facility in the UK, New Patriotic Party (NPP) firebrand, Kennedy Agyapong has categorically denied such claims.
According to him, he did not know that the Vice President had even been flown to the UK for treatment or anything of its kind until he run into the Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia at Landmark hotel while having his breakfast.
Pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) newspaper, the Herald had alleged that the outspoken lawmaker was prevented from seeing the second gentleman of the land for fear that he could run to town with what was actually wrong with him.
Security details at a health facility where the Vice President was on admission, were asked to throw him out when he attempted visiting, the paper is quoted as syaing.
But in a sharp rebuttal to the claims on Tuesday on Adom TV, Mr Kennedy Agyapong said the story is a fiction of someone’s imagination as there is no truth in the entire narrative.
Though he admits he was in London to attend a memorial service of Joseph Ayi Ankrah, father to Ray Ankrah, the Financial Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the United Kingdom (UK), he indicated that he never at no point made an attempt to visit Dr Bawumia because he was not even aware of his presence.
“I was at the Landmark hotel and as I got down to take my breakfast I was informed by Yoofi Grant that the VEEP had collapsed and has been rushed to the hospital”
“We were still sitting at the restaurant when we saw Samira who was also around and told us about Bawumia’s health but added that he is doing well which I asked her to send my regards to him. The following day we saw Samira again and told us she has delivered my message to her and we laughed” he explained.
He explained that he wanted the Vice President to have enough rest and therefore never bothered to visit since Hajia Samira Bawumia had told him everything he needed to know.
“I never visited the hospital. In fact, I didn’t know the route to the hospital. I only told Samira to wish him well and so I don’t understand why people are claiming I was prevented from seeing him. When I learned he was sick, I just told myself it was fatigue and therefore needed to rest so where from that baseless report” he quizzed.
