The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has warned that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scheduled for July 2024 might be canceled due to severe funding issues.
The government has failed to release necessary funds, with WAEC needing an additional ₵93,552,688 to cover the exam's costs. WAEC's Director of Public Affairs, John Kapi, emphasized the urgency of immediate financial support.
The Minority caucus in parliament has called for a meeting with relevant authorities to address the issue.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the Education Committee downplayed the seriousness, citing the government's past commitments and payments towards the exams.
