It is your civic responsibility to pay tax – GRA Boss to Ghanaians
The commissioner-general of Ghana Revenue Authority, Emmanuel Kofi Nti has reiterated the need for all eligible tax payers to pay their tax and file their tax returns before the end of April.
Read full article Mr. Nti who was speaking at the launch of tax and good governance week in Accra said, the GRA has been tasked to raise GHC39.8 billion as tax revenue for 2018, therefore the need to expand the tax net.
“We have put in place a number of tax compliance measures with the hope of inducing voluntary compliance,” he said.
According to him, the GRA is hopeful that this year, they will record an impressive increase and ultimately maximize revenue for National development.
“This will contribute greatly to the government’s vision of Ghana beyond aid which aims at making us more self-dependent” he added.
Mr. Nti said, the GRA organized and launched a National Tax Campaign in the last quarter of 2017 to sensitize the public on the various tax issues and that the new campaign “Tax and good governance week” is a follow up on the previous campaign.
Tax and good governance week is an initiative of the Ministry of Finance and GRA to sensitize citizens on the need to pay and file their tax returns.
“This time the focus is on the filling of annual tax returns, in accordance with the Income Tax Campaign Act, 2015, “ he said.
According to him, every citizen is mandated to file his return with the Commissioner-General of GRA not later than four months after the end of the year of assessment.
“It is my expectation that all income earners will file their returns during the month of April,” he added
Emmanuel Nti was speaking at the launch of Tax and good governance week in Accra on Friday, 6th April at the GRA head office where the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia and so ministers of state had gone to file their tax returns.
The week is themed “Filing your tax returns, your civic responsibility”.
