National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has expressed disappointment over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), calling it an embarrassment.
Ghana, four-time AFCON champions, failed to win any of their six qualifying matches, finishing bottom of Group F with just three points.
This marks the first time in 20 years that Ghana has missed the tournament, with their last absence being in 2004. Speaking during his Eastern Region campaign tour, Mahama lamented the decline of Ghanaian football, stating, "Everything has broken down, even the Black Stars."
The Black Stars’ dismal performance, including a 2-1 loss to Niger in their final qualifier, has sparked nationwide frustration. The team now turns its focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
