It’s time to reintroduce the Citizens Amendment bill in Parliament – Kwaku Asare

Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, a lawyer and fellow at CDD-Ghana, is pushing for the reintroduction of the Citizens Amendment Bill in parliament.

Initially presented in 2021 by NPP MP Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the bill aims to lift restrictions barring dual citizens from holding public offices, such as Chief Justice and Member of Parliament.

Prof. Asare noted that the bill, which has undergone initial readings and received support from the Council of State, has stalled in committee.

He urged for its progression to a vote, emphasizing the need for inclusive governance.
