Jinapor denies issuing 1,400 mining licences since 2022

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has refuted claims that over 1,400 mining licences have been issued since 2022.

He stated that the reported figure is false and clarified that issuing mining licences is a lengthy process requiring multiple signatures, making it impossible to approve so many within a short time.

Jinapor acknowledged delays in licence approvals and noted that streamlining the process could help reduce illegal mining activities, which are damaging Ghana’s environment.
