Jirapa (UW), Aug. 24 GNA - Mr. George Hikah Benson, Upper West Regional Minister has asked the Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area, Naa Ansoleh Ganaa II, to use his rich experience as a former Inspector General of Police to help in the resolution of the numerous chieftaincy conflicts in the region.
He regretted that in such a small region, there were as many as eight paramount skins in dispute, which did not augur well for a region that was deprived and was yearning for accelerated development. Known in public and private life as Peter Tenganaban Nanfuri, Naa Ganaa served as Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for many years and retired from the Ghana Police Service in 2001 as Inspector General Police.
Mr. Benson made the appeal when he and his Deputy, Mrs. Winifred Dyaka paid a courtesy call on him at his residence at Jirapa during their maiden working visit to the Jirapa/Lambussie district on Thursday after their appointment to their current positions by the Head of State.
He lauded the services the Jirapa Naa had rendered to the nation and pledged that they would avail themselves of any opportunity to draw from his experience and wisdom for the benefit of the region and Ghana. "We are proud of your success in your chosen career and your contribution to the nation as a son of this region and now as a traditional ruler".
Mr. Benson said traditional rulers know how difficult it is to implement policies and they should therefore educate their people to understand why it was sometimes difficult to fix problems and challenges as they emerged.
Naa Ganaa congratulated the two Ministers on their appointment and asked them to perform their duties with patience and commitment and pledged the whole-hearted support of he and his elders, adding that they would help them to succeed. "You should be aware that as human beings you cannot please every body", he stressed.
