Members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have voted against the unopposed candidate for the Presiding Member slot Nana Kofi Senya.
The election which was fraught with chaos and controversy ended Tuesday afternoon after 65 assembly members voted NO against Senya while 62 people voted YES.
This means the KMA has again failed to elect a Presiding Member after Senya failed to secure two thirds majority of the votes as required by law.
So far, the four elections held have failed to produce a winner.
Tuesday’s election was nearly called off after some assembly members reportedly pounced on an NDC supporter Yakubu Tony Aidoo after he rained insults on them for deliberately dragging the election of a presiding member.
After calm was restored, Adumhene Nana Baffour Adjei Kesse stepped down to allow Senya contest for the Presiding Member slot unopposed.
But Senya failed to get the nod of the assembly members. It is not clear if another election will be held to elect the Presiding Member for KMA.
