Government officials failed Ghanaians by not acting swiftly to deal with the causes of the deaths of students of the Kumasi Academy, Abraham Amaliba, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said.

According to him, indications are that the government officials responsible for the educational and health knew the cause of the deaths but kept it to themselves, a situation he believed was not the best.

Speaking on the matter on TV3’s New Day programme on Saturday, December 9, Mr Amaliba said: “There have been a failure on government officials. They should use this as the learning point so that in future, we do not have some of these things happening.

“The Minister of Health told us that they knew the cause of the death but they didn’t want to cause fear and panic but that should not have been the case.”

Meanwhile, the mother of 15-year-old Felix Asiamah, one of the four Kumasi Academy students who mysteriously died, is threatening to sue the school if she is not informed about the cause of the death of her son.

Madam Afia Serwah, alleged that her son was left to die by the school authorities before being taken to the hospital.

She further accused the school authority of attempting to cover up the cause of the death of her son.

According to the late Agric student’s mother, her son complained to the school authorities that he was sick in the morning and he was given medication. However, she said, he was not attended to till his demise.

She told Accra FM's Elisha Adarkwah that she will sue the school if she is not told the health condition that resulted in the death of her ward.

“I want to know the particular disease that killed my son else even if I have to take the matter to court I will do that,” she stated.
