In the bid to improve quality healthcare and house more patients, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has commissioned Ward N of the Accident and Orthopaedic Centre which was recently renovated into an ultra-modern facility.
The facility was refurbished by GCB bank in partnership with the Accident and Orthopaedic Department of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Speaking at the commissioning of the center Tuesday, Managing Director of GCB Bank said the gesture is to help improve healthcare delivery in the country and also enhance national development.
Anselm Ransford Sowah said, “I am very excited that together with Korle Bu, we have been able to improve conditions at this unique facility specifically for women.”
He said, GCB Bank is committed to supporting projects that aim at providing sustainable health care to Ghanaians.
“For us at GCB Bank the provision of sustainable health care to society forms a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility and we remain committed to this cause” he reiterated.
Dr. Frederick Kwarteng, Head of the Accident and Orthopaedic Department at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital said, the facility will help position the hospital as a hub of medical tourism.
He said, “The refurbishment of this unit is an essential component of our drive to reposition Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as a hub of medical Tourism in West Africa and the world as a whole.”
Dr. Kwarteng who was thankful for the support his department has received from GCB Bank in relation to the refurbishment of the unit added that, the nurses and staff of the unit are ready to work and put smiles on the faces of patients.
He disclosed that, the refurbishment of the unit caused a total of GHC450,000 and to keep the facility functioning properly for long, patients will be required to pay maintenance fee.
Speaking to journalists after the commissioning, the Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu, Dr. Felix Anyah said, the gesture done by GCB Bank will go a long way to enhance the work of the hospital and also attract a lot of medical tourist into the country.
Dr. Anyah said, the rate charged by the United Kingdom for a hip and knee operations is about €7, 600 and €16, 764 which is 10% higher than what is charged here in Ghana
“I will say this gesture has come in handy to position and reposition Korle Bu to be an attraction for medical tourists,” he said.
