Police have confirmed the arrest of 21-year old Kofi Darko who was among 7 persons who broke jail at Kwabenya Police Station in the Greater Accra Region a week ago.
According to the police, the fugitive suspect was arrested at by a surveillance team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Begoro in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region
He has since been transferred to Accra while police have intensified a search for the other suspects said to be on the run.
It would be recalled that armed men numbering about six attacked the Kwabenya charge office and forcibly released the seven prisoners.
The escapee prisoners were identified as Dickson Ofori 24, Chubuzor Akwabu 34, Edem Rockson 32, Emmanuel Kotey 21, Prince Osei 21, Kofi Darko 21 and Atta Kwadwo 20.
It was established that Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi who was then on duty at the charge office was shot.
He was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment and was referred to 37 Military Hospital but he died shortly on arrival and his remains have been kept in the morgue.
