Nasir Ahmed Yartey, Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Roads and Highways, clarified that maintaining faulty streetlights is the responsibility of local authorities, not his ministry.
Speaking on Citi FM, Yartey cited Section 4 of a 2011 policy document, which assigns streetlight maintenance to local assemblies.
He explained that while the Ministry installs streetlights during road construction, their upkeep is handed over to local authorities, who collect levies for this purpose.
Yartey emphasized that the legal framework clearly defines this division of responsibilities.
