Residents of Ohene Nkwanta and nearby communities have risked their lives on Saturday morning to siphon diesel from a crashed tanker following a head-on collision with a Toyota Camry on the Kumasi-Accra highway.
The tanker which was carrying 36,000 litres of diesel from Accra to Kumasi, was forcefully opened by the residents despite the presence of soldiers and police.
The accident resulted in the death of the Camry driver and injuries to two others, including the tanker driver and his mate, who are now hospitalized.
The truck owner, Mohammed Zakaria, described the diesel theft as unfortunate and could not quantify his losses.
