Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, insists President John Dramani Mahama cannot absolve himself of corrupt practices going on in various state institutions in the country.
The legislator alleges either the President is encouraging these acts or is allowing them to go on without cracking the whip because he benefits from such practices frowned on by most Ghanaians.
Taking his turn at the 15th Extraordinary Conference in Sunyani, he challenged the president to show to Ghanaians he is not corrupt and prove how he acquired some of his wealth within and outside Ghana ever since assuming the post of Vice President and later President.
“We all saw him when he became Vice President and later President and the wealth he has accumulated thereafter," he alleged
Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah maintains that about 85% of procurements in public institutions are riddled with corrupt practices which have gained international recognition with various agencies ranking Ghana as one of the most corrupt countries in Africa which hitherto was not the case.
“It is unfortunate the President does not see the corruption in his own backyard though it is evident in our daily lives that there is deep-seated corruption in the country," he alleged.
Notwithstanding the problems facing the country’s economy, he admonished members of the party to work towards ensuring that the NPP emerges victorious in 2016 as this is the surest way to redirect the abysmal performance of the country.
“Various recognized international institutions have downgraded us, and we have been made a laughing stock," he added.
To this end, he said the crusade for change in 2016 must be fought with the fiercest determination to ensure that Ghanaians who have promised to mandate the NPP take over the reins of power are not left disappointed
