President John Mahama will today debate the six other candidates partaking in this year’s presidential polls in a debate being organised by the National Commission for Civic Education and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The debate is a platform for the various candidates to outline their policies before Ghanaians and for their opponents to critique those ideas.
The main opposition New Patriotic Party’s candidate Nana Akufo-Addo has declined to take part in the debate. According to the NPP, their candidate has equally important issues to attend to today, hence his inability to show up.
The NCCE debate comes on the back of the botched presidential debate efforts by the Institute of economic affairs.
The ruling NDC, this year, stayed out of the IEA encounters over claims the think tank is biased against them.
They accused the IEA of favouring the opposition New Patriotic Party in previous presidential debates.
The IEA has however dismissed the bias accusations against them.
Tonight’s NCCE/GBC debate will take place at the Banquet Hall in Accra at 7pm.
