The Minority in Parliament has revealed that WAEC has postponed marking the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scripts due to unpaid debts from the government.
As of June, the government owed WAEC GH₵300 million for services from 2022.
Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Ranking Member of the Education Committee, urged the government to settle the debt urgently to avoid disrupting the academic calendar.
The delay in marking could affect students' transition to senior high school.
This situation follows a near disruption of the exams earlier this year due to similar financial issues.
