Private legal practitioner, Dr Maurice Ampaw has threatened to take legal action against securities and Exchanges Commission of Ghana (SEC-Ghana), Bank of Ghana andFinance Minister Ken Ofori Atta following the challenges affecting the operations of gold trading hub, Menzgold, MyNewsGh.com can report.
The Securities and Exchange Commission on September 12, 2018 ordered gold trading firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, to suspend their operations with the public with immediate effect.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta stressed government has no intention of bailing out customers of beleaguered investment company, Menzgold.
The minister explained the profile of Menzgold customers shows financially literate people who ought to know that the gold dealership firm is “an obvious trap” and applauded the efforts of the Securities and Exchanges Commission for coming down “hard and strong and justifiably” on Menzgold.
Management of Menzgold issued a payment plan to pay dividends of customers after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered the closure of Menzgold offices.
Dr Maurice Ampaw speaking on Abusua fm morning show host by Kwame Adinkra accused government, Bank of Ghana (BoG), Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta of deliberate attempt to collapse Menzgold Company.
According to Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, allegation by government appointees, SEC and Bank of Ghana that Menzgold Company operating illegally is untrue saying government was aware of Menzgold operations.
“Kwame, those saying Menzgold Company was operating illegally should refrain from the propaganda. Didn’t Menzgold pay tax and SSNIT to government? Can a fraudster pay tax and SSNIT to government? Government is aware of Menzgold operation. Government, Bank of Ghana deliberately collapsed Menzgold Company because Menzgold operations was collapsing Bank of Ghana and Ofori Atta databank” he said.
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw however charged Menzgold customers to stop listening to lies and support the Management of Menzgold to win the fight against Bank of Ghana, Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana (SEC-Ghana) and government.
