The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has questioned why President Akufo Addo is still keeping the boss of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) at post after his inability to take swift action in the Menzgold saga.
The Communications Director of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, in a press conference on Wednesday dubbed “The Moment of Truth” said “We learnt late yesterday that EOCO has belatedly frozen the account of NAM1. And the assets of Nana Appiah Mensah and we have been told that EOCO will be going after his assets in the coming days”.
He added: “Ladies and gentlemen, this are sad times for Ghana, because this begs the question as to why EOCO or as to what EOCO has been doing all this while? As a matter of wisdom, we submit that EOCO is only acting after NAM1 horses, if not elephants have left the stable, because this matter amounts to closing the stable after the horse has bolted”.
The NDC also accused President Akufo Addo and senior officers within the government of being complicit in the whole Menzgold saga as they say actions could have been taken in confiscating properties of NAM1 right from day one when the issues begun.
“NAM1’s horses have left the stable and then suddenly the director general of EOCO has discovered his powers under the law. You have allowed the man to abscond for the past three to four months, given them enough time for them to get away with their loot and to insult us further”.
“President Akufo Addo has not given this man a sack. This man is still at post and issuing statement telling Ghanaians that oh we have frozen his accounts and we will be going after his assets. This man should have been sacked by now if government was not complicit in this matter but he’s still at post” he said.
