Menzgold Saga: Confused NDC deceiving Ghanaians – NPP

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is yet to recover from its defeat in the 2016 elections.

According to them, they have decided to continually deceive Ghanaians with their lies and propaganda so far as the Menzgold saga is concerned.

Addressing the press at their 'Truth Forum' series, Communications Director of the party and Member of Parliament for Adentan constituency, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah explained that they could not fathom why the NDC continually try to blame the government for the collapse of Menzgold and incessantly worrying government to settle Menzgold customers like they (NDC) did when the DKM issues arose.

According to him, they will continually follow the law in resolving the Menzgold saga, adding that the NDC government could have resolved this issue when they arose in 2012 as Menzbanc before it metamorphorsed into Menzgold.

He reiterated that President Akufo-Addo had no business with the embattled CEO of Menzgold as it is being trumpeted by the NDC

The New Patriotic Party will not be distracted by these callous statements of the NDC who have refused to commiserate with depositors whose funds are locked up at Menzgold.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described as a smoking gun, efforts by government to help aggrieved customers of troubled gold dealership firm, Menzgold Company Limited, retrieve their monies.

According to the NDC, the recent action by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to freeze the accounts of the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Nana Appiah Mensah, alias NAM 1 leaves much to be desired.

At a press conference in Accra, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi noted that efforts by government to bring NAM 1, who is currently in the custody of Emirati authorities, to book, is not enough.

He is, therefore, of the belief that the only way government can correct the “greatest financial calamity to have befallen the Ghanaian people” is to compensate customers of Menzgold.

“We insist that government has a constitutional duty to protect its citizens and safeguard their interests, including their economic rights at all times. The state is clothed with enough power and resources to retrieve the monies of Menzgold customers or to compensate them. This responsibility must not be abdicated as if government is just a passive observer in this whole debacle,” he said.
