Military personnel threaten to boycott deployment on December 7

A total of 172 military personnel at the Sunyani Liberation Barrack in the Brong Ahafo Region are threatening to boycott deployment for electoral duties on Wednesday as their names have been excluded from the voters’ list for the second round of special voting.

The personnel could not exercise their franchise on December 1 in the first Special Voting exercise as their names were not found in the special register at their polling centre in the Sunyani East Constituency.

For them, the second round of voting Sunday was an opportunity to cast their ballot ahead of the December 7 general elections but their hopes were dashed once more as they could not find their names in the updated special register.

TV3’s Larry Paa Kwesi Moses reports the officers who had traveled from their duty post mainly from Bawku, Takoradi, Yendi, Accra and Tema were disappointed at the turn of event, “because they still can’t find their names in the updated register.

“There is a serious uproar in the Sunyani Liberation Barracks. According to some of the officers, if they don’t allow them to vote, they will boycott the deployment exercise by their superiors,” Larry reported.

“It’s a sad spectacle here at the liberation barracks were officers cannot find their names on the Voters Register both the new and the old,” our correspondent reported “Not a single person has cast his vote as I’m talking to you now [8:30am],” Larry added.

The issue of widespread missing names on the register which characterised the first special voting exercise Thursday, has become a prominent feature in Sunday’s exercise creating anxiety among them.
