Minority Calls For Head Count

Accra, - The approval of five nominees for ministerial and deputy ministerial positions was stalled for minutes with minority members calling for a head count to ensure that they conform to art The Constitution provides that majority of Ministers of State should come from Parliament. The call was prompted by Squadron Leader Clend Sowu, NDC-Anlo, who cautioned that the House should not be seen to be infringing on the Constitution. Those whose names were on the motion were Mr Fred Ohene Kena, Minister of Mines and Energy, Nana Paddy Acheampong, deputy minister of Health, Prof. Patrick Addy, deputy minister of Youth and Spo Mr S. K. Boafo, Minority Chief Whip and Mr Kwamena Bartels, NPP-Ablekuma north, argued that Sqdr Ldr Sowu who was cut off while reading the Arithmetic of the nominations, should be heard. Mr Boafo stated that of the five nominations slated in the motion, only Mr Buertey is a Member of Parliament.
