Do people in committed relationships really need space for themselves?
What does it even mean to ask for space from your partner?
The “I need Space” phrase could be sprung on you at any time, especially at a time when things are not so great in the relationship. Most at times, this is the phrase that precedes a break up.
The phrase could mean a lot of things ranging from "I need to able to hook up with somebody else and not feel bad about it" to "I need to prove to myself that I can go through the day without seeing your face and hearing your voice" to "I'm so sick of hanging out with you, but I don't have the heart to say it."
The one conclusion many people draw from these different interpretations is that "I need space" mostly always has a hidden meaning, connotation or intention to it.
At the end of the day when your partner says they need space, then it can be looked at in two ways. Either they are going through a hard time and need time to think things through or possibly would like to break up as time goes on.
Typically, when your partner would want to break up, you will have some form of warning signs before this happens. They will continue to tell you that they are not happy and that if you do not make a change they want to break up.
