A pollster with research think tank, Ballot Watch Ghana, Mr Korsi Quito, has stated that the ruling National Democratic Congress’ targets of 25 seats in Greater Accra in this year’s election is feasible.

According to him there are six parliamentary seats in the region being held by the NPP out of which five may swing to the ruling party.

In an exclusive interview with Ghanapoliticsonline.com, Mr Quito said “if the NDC puts its house in order, the party can snatch the Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso West Wuogon, Okaikoi North, Tema East and Weija constituencies from the NPP. It is not going to be easy but there are certain things that strategists of the party must do…and if they do it the party may win these seats.”

He however discounted claims by the ruling party that it can win the Tema West seat. “Yes, it is true that the NPP is going through some difficulties in Tema West, but that will not guarantee an NDC victory in that constituency. In the last election, the NDC lost with less than 1000 votes in that constituency when Ofosu Ampofo contested. And I can tell you on authority that if Ofosu Ampofo had contested again, Carlos Ahenkorah would have been in trouble. Lawyer James Enu does not have the political clout Ofosu Ampofo exuded when he contested in 2012. Lawyer Enu contested in Tema Central in the last election and his record was not good. He polled a little over 4000 votes whilst President Mahama polled over 16000 votes in the same constituency. That should tell you that he lacks the charisma to woo even supporters of his own party.”

“If the NDC had been strategic, seats like Tema East, Ayawaso Central and Ayawaso West Wuogon would not be seats the NPP will be wining,” Mr Quito noted.

He stated that while the NDC works to increase its seats from 20 to 25, “the leadership of the party should not take their eyes off seats like Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom, Ablekuma Central, Madina, Ningo Prampram and Adentan because these are seats that the NPP may cause an upset in the December election.”
