Two prominent groups, the Ladies Caucus of the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Samira Ladies in the Upper East Region, have jointly issued a press release condemning what they describe as attacks on the personality of the wife of Vice-President, Hajia Samira Bawumia.

The warning is directed at a communication member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Beatrice Anningfio who is accused of using “unprintable words” against Mrs Bawumia, on her Facebook page.

At a press conference on Tuesday, 16 January 2024, the groups expressed their dissatisfaction with the NDC communicator’s labeling them as “a symbol of naked jealousy”.

The groups demanded an apology from Ms Anningfio to the wife of the Vice-President, warning that failure to do so would result in a reciprocal response targeting former first lady, Lordina Mahama.

Liza Abagrey, who spoke on behalf of the groups, emphasised the need for a civil and issue-based political discourse, criticising the use of vulgar language in the political arena.

Ms Abagrey stated: "We want Madam Beatrice to know that violence is not the way to go and that if she doesn’t have that intellectual capacity to base her campaign on issues and facts, she is not incapacitated to advise herself.”

The groups urged the NDC communicator to refrain from personal attacks and focus on addressing political issues with substance.

They also expressed concern over the recent incidents of violence within the NDC, referencing instances where party members allegedly engaged in physical altercations.

Acknowledging the intelligence of Mrs Bawumia, the groups encouraged her and her husband to continue their positive contributions to Ghana.

They further urged the youth to remain steadfast in their efforts to break the ‘8-year rule jinx’ in Ghana.

The groups also called for a more constructive and issue-driven political landscape, stressing the importance of promoting healthy political discourse in the region.
