The Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to undermine Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's legacy as Ghana's founder in favor of Dr. J.B. Danquah, a figure with a “modest” role in the independence struggle.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Kwesi Pratt, SMG claimed the NPP has altered historical narratives through speeches, textbooks, and even the redevelopment of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.
The group also criticized the amendment of the Public Holidays Act, which they view as an attempt to reshape national identity.
SMG praised Ghanaians for resisting these efforts.
