President John Mahama has reiterated the 2012 election petition initiated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wasted one year of his four-year term.

The main opposition resorted to the Supreme Court to challenge the presidential election results in a legal tussle which dragged for about nine months.

Speaking at Asankragwaa in the Amenfi West district, Mr. Mahama said: “2012 after elections, like joke like joke our brothers said they would not accept the outcome. I even thought they were joking, before we could say jack they were in court.”

He added: “For almost a year we were battling it out at the Supreme Court. Until finally the Supreme Court said let the young man go and enjoy his Presidency declaring the elections free and fair and legitimate.

“So truly speaking, we used only three years to do all the massive works you are seeing. I believe it’s God who gives power. It’s God who crowns a king. I know it’s not because of my wisdom, my strength or my handsomeness, it’s God [who made me President].

“So everyday my prayer is that let thy will be done. If it’s God’s will for me to continue being president, it shall come to pass.”

President Mahama is optimistic he will be retained based on the massive infrastructure projects his government has embarked on over the last four years.

Pollster Ben Ephson has predicted he will win the elections by 52% while other polls have gone in favour of main opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo.
