Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has advocated for competence, popularity, and performance as the primary criteria for selecting the New Patriotic Party's running mate.
He emphasized that regional considerations should not overshadow these qualities, even though there were expectations for a candidate from the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Asah-Asante believes gender should not be a decisive factor, as the running mate's role is to support the flagbearer in securing votes and ensuring effective governance.
He suggested that the ideal candidate should be a seasoned bridge builder capable of appealing to diverse constituents and potentially stepping into the president's role if needed.
