NPP trying to use backdoor to oust EC Chairperson - Spio-Garbrah

National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has bemoaned clandestine move by some elements within the current government to use back door to oust the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei from office.

He points accusing fingers at the presidency for hatching such a move to replace the embattled Chairperson and her two deputies, Madam Georgina Opoku Amankwa and Sule Amadu respectively with an intent to rig any subsequent polls that will be held in the country.

According to the former Trade and Industry Minister, he has enough information from government Madam Charlotte Osei together with her two deputies are deemed unfit by some elements at the presidency to occupy their current positions hence, petition for their removal.

“The petition to the President against the top officials of the EC, which was referred to the Chief Justice, who has, in turn, empanelled a Committee to look further into the allegations is vivid evidence of what is being planned”, he stated.

“As the government wobbles on in its attempts to fulfill its many campaign promises, it has decided to mount a public campaign to change the leadership of the Electoral Commission as part of its grand scheme to retain power in 2010”, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah accused.

“The strategy is mainly to use the media to taint the EC and NDC leadership to the point where, even if favorable judicial actions are not obtained, the reputational damage to the targeted individuals will potentially disqualify them from holding high public offices”, he revealed.

“No matter what the turn of events are, the EC’s overall reputations, and that specifically of Mrs Charlotte Osei, will be brought into open question in the course of the enquiry”.
