A Circuit Court in Asokwa, Kumasi, has sentenced Rose Ikem, a 40-year-old Nigerian sex trafficker, to five years of hard labor for human trafficking and assault.
Ikem was found guilty of trafficking young Nigerian girls, aged 17 to 24, into prostitution in Konongo, Ashanti region.
She must also compensate four victims with a total of GH₵24,000.
Police arrested Ikem after a resident's complaint led to the rescue of the victims, who had been forced to remit GH₵500 daily and subjected to abuse.
The sentences for trafficking and causing harm will run concurrently.
