Ofosu-Ampofo's trial: Keep quiet and go to court - Pius Hadzide to NDC

Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam-Hadzide has offered advice to the biggest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to ‘keep quiet in the media and go to court with their facts’ if they have any proof to show that Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo is innocent in the charges proffered against him.

“If they have something to say, I will advise them to keep quiet in the media and go to court and present their facts . . . but to create the impression that in Ghana there should be no equality before the law, then the citizens will not understand you,” he advised.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Pius Enam-Hadzide insisted the NDC should not panic if they have eveidence that their National Chairman's leaked taped was doctored.

“Why have they resorted to letter writing and radio interviews to address the issue which is already in court?”

He therefore described as disappointing the comment made by the NDC Chief Scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketia that the government should have prosecuted those involved in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence and ignore the secret tape of their National Chairman.

“I am surprise that a leader like Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the biggest opposition party in Ghana is capable of saying that others in the past should be prosecuted first and not Ofosu-Ampofo. I am disappointed in him; I doubt that a great leader like him will open his mouth to say things like that,” he chided.

He reiterated that “the NDC is making it to appear that once a politician is involved in a case, they cannot be tried in court because it will be classified as political victimization, but the ordinary person in the country can be prosecuted in court when they commit an offence”.

“If it is done in the manner the NDC is pushing this issue, then it means they want the law to deal with certain class of people in society; then it means we have divided the law into two where the law can be applicable to others but with another, the law is not applicable,” he asserted.
