Deputy Communications Director, for the opposition National Democratic Congress, Kwaku Boahene has called on Ghanaians to blame Head pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensah Otabil for the collapse of recently closed Capital Bank.
The Bank of Ghana on Monday 14th August released a statement directing UT and Capital Bank to relinquish all their assets to Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and that the licenses of both banks have been revoked.
Speaking on Agoo TV’s Yensempa show, Kwaku Boahene told host Bonohene Baffour Awuah that the outspoken man of God, was the board chairman of the bank and should therefore be held responsible for whatever that led to the collapse of the bank.
According to him, Otabil focused more on spiritual things rather than doing effective supervision of the bank because it was relevant for the bank’s growth. He explained that the man of God charged the staff of the Bank to pray often because he believed prayer was the only way operations of the bank would be successful. But according to Kwaku Boahene, the only way to run a bank successfully is to have intellectual staff.
“Otabil Must be held responsible. He is the chairman and must therefore take responsibility for whatever that has happened. He focused on spiritual aspects rather than doing effective supervision of the bank.” – He said
