The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Bernard Mornah has said that the call by the Electoral Commission (EC) for political parties to present their proposal on the voter register is laudable since the aim of the call is to engage a broader stakeholder consultation.

Mr. Mornah said the directive by the EC would allow the public to contribute on whether to compile a new register or not.

He said although he agreed with the EC, the NPP coming to public to create the impression that something bad has happened to the register could have created public revolution.

The Chief scribe of the PNC said the NPP petition are just allegations which they could have engaged all the political parties to deliberate on rather than to come public with the findings.

He said electoral matters are very sensitive and must not be taking for granted since it would heighten tension among the public.

He explained that the call for a new register by the NPP should not appear to make the voter register as a determinant for winning elections, that he said the NPP accepted in good faith at the IPAC meeting.

One thing that Mr. Mornah was happy about was the directive giving by the EC to political parties to communicate with the commission through their constituency offices and not the head office.

He said the EC has also regularize IPAC meetings and in 2016 there would be 12 meetings and 3 more for the year 2015, an action which according to Mr. Mornah was laudable.

Asked whether they support the call by the NPP for a new register, he said the PNC would present their position on the matter to the EC on the 22nd of September 2015.
