The former National Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan has announced his defection to the largest opposition party, New Patriotic Party.

Speaking at a well-attended rally organized by the NPP in Accra Sunday, he took even the master of ceremony by surprise when he noted that he had switched camp more than a day ago.

The emcee had introduced him as a member of the PNC.

“Now I am a two-day old member of the New Patriotic Party,” he declared to loud cheers from the thousands of supporters gathered at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre.

His defection may not shock many political watchers following his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party on various national campaigns waged by pro-NPP groups including the Let My Vote Count Alliance.

In the 2012 general elections, he mounted NPP platform to announce his support for Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidency against his party’s presidential candidate Hassan Ayariga.

At Sunday’s rally, Abu Ramadan derided the PNC, indicating that the party was not ready to govern the country. It took the Supreme Court’s intervention to get the PNC’s presidential candidate, Dr. Edward Mahama to get on the presidential ballot for 2016 after he was allowed to correct mistakes on his nomination forms after he was disqualified by the Electoral Commission.

Abu Ramadan likened the second attempt by the PNC’s candidate to rewriting final examination.

“Please let us not waste our votes in trying other smaller parties that cannot make a difference in this election; this election is so critical,” he said.

He told the crowd that generation would never forgive the electorate if they fail to give the mandate of governing this country to Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
