Professor Yaw Anokye Frimpong, a private legal practitioner, states that children neglected by their parents can sue for neglect, but must do so before turning 18.
In an Adom News interview, he highlighted that the 1992 Constitution guarantees children’s rights to care, assistance, and maintenance from their parents.
Prof. Frimpong acknowledged that poverty often leads to child neglect.
His remarks follow concerns from CHRAJ Commissioner Joseph Whittal about rising child neglect cases due to economic hardship.
In 2021, CHRAJ documented numerous cases, including 1,914 for Right to Maintenance and 146 for Right to Education.
