Professor Kwabena Sarfo-Kantankah, Dean of the Faculty of Art at the University of Cape Coast, emphasized that Parliament’s sovereignty is limited to law-making, while the Supreme Court holds the final authority to interpret the law.
His remarks follow the Supreme Court’s dismissal of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s bid to reverse its ruling that declared four parliamentary seats vacant.
Professor Sarfo-Kantankah noted that even if Supreme Court decisions are disputed, they remain binding unless overturned by another Supreme Court ruling. He cautioned against disregarding court orders, as it could lead to contempt charges, urging lawmakers to respect judicial decisions.
