Ever since the Chairman of the National Reconciliation Commission Justice Amoah Sekyi threw-open the commission’s doors for people who were tried in absentia to petition none has applied up to date.

This was made known to the pres on Monday at the Commission’s Headquarters in Accra. It could be recalled that there were media speculation that Amedeka and co were going to take advantage of the amnesty granted by the NRC last week. But as at the time of going to press the commission had still not had any petition from Amedeka and co.

Meanwhile, the NRC has described the process of filling of petitions as encouraging and at the time of filing this report – 11:53 am on August 2002 about 327 petitions had been received from four (4) centres. They are: Accra – 170, Kumasi –18, Ho –20 and Takoradi – 18. Tamale started its work on August 10th whiles Bolgatanga will start work today, 12 August 2002.
