Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has voiced concerns over a petition from former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, which seeks to declare four parliamentary seats vacant due to their occupants running as independent candidates.
Oquaye argued that such an action would be illegal without a formal complaint from the relevant political parties and due process for the MPs involved. He emphasized that only the affected parties, specifically the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have the authority to initiate such proceedings.
Oquaye expressed confidence in current Speaker Alban Bagbin's ability to handle the matter appropriately.
